Great insight Alan. I only see people episodically, so I don't usually have a chance to follow BP trends in pregnant patients. However, your advice is excellent. People in continual care in systems with good EMR (although it pains me to say it) can easily pull up BP trends over time in graph format and respond appropriately. I think you're also correct about the 'team' approach. When everyone is 'in charge,' nobody is in charge. Have a great day friend.
Thank you for illuminating a corner of health care that I was not aware of. Sharing wisdom as you have done--and being able to do so freely and openly--is an important step toward a positive shift.
Thanks Edwin! We must believe we have within our grasp the opportunity to decrease our maternal mortality rate...no excuses. Honest and accurate BP monitoring really is the key to managing preeclampsia and avoiding eclampsia. Yes, the team approach has advantages for the team. They can all say, "Difficult case managed well." And the lawsuit ends before it starts.
Thank you Curious and Concerned: Hopefully we can look forward to the day when deaths like Torie's will be nonexistent. We have that end-point within our grasp. I've recently found a quote, "You make change one person at a time." Anything else is hubris or politics. Decreasing maternal mortality one person at a time is all I can do. Although there is much talk about the high maternal mortality rate coming from the CDC, they offer NO answers, neither does ACOG (American college of Obstetrics and Gynecology). So, here we are, beginning to make the change, one person at a time. Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it, Curious and Concerned, Alan L
