It's that time of year to give thanks for our blessings over the past year. My Substack readers are on the top of my list. I thank you for all your support this past year. And a special thanks to those who took the time to respond to my posts with thoughtful comments. And last but very much not least, thanks to my subscribers!
It's good to have a place to be able to share my thoughts about how corporate medicine has evolved into the horribly dysfunctional healthcare system it is today. Diane, my wife and writing collaborator, and I saw the early stages of this destruction of the physician-patient relationship back in 1992 when we wrote Modern Medicine: What You're Dying to Know.
Our hope for the future is for less federal and state government harassment of healthcare and a lot more harassment of Big Pharma, corporate denial of access to needed health care, and gain of function “research.”
So, for 2025, I wish that policymakers could act on behalf of their constituents to curtail runaway greed and profit in healthcare. The goal should be to remedy a broken healthcare system. The U.S. healthcare system is the most expensive in the world, but fails to provide basic healthcare to everyone, something every other developed country provides. As we said in Modern Medicine: What You're Dying to Know, the U.S. healthcare system is great if you need a miracle, but fails miserably in providing basic healthcare to all.
Doctors need to take back healthcare decisions for their patients!
Have a great holiday season!
